Probably, the biggest impact any trend has had on mankind is Social. Social media is transformed almost everything we do today, from staying connected with our friends, communicating with people, doing business, consuming news, learning to almost any other thing that we do in our day to day life, has been impacted by social. So much so, it’s hard to imagine a world not socially connected.

But this is just the start, the possibilities are endless on how social can be leveraged to make this world a better, more connected, safer and comfortable place.

It wasn’t too long ago, when the first 512 kbps broadband hit the scenes and before you knew it, the internet highways were so broad, that internet enabled entertainment is replacing the television. You have your favorite TV shows streamed straight to your personal devices and the archive of every known musician that ever recorded an album is available via a few touches.

Surely, there is no shortage of data or the ability to serve it. You’ve got the data and you’ve got the infrastructure to make it available to everyone with an internet enabled device - what do you think is next in entertainment technology?

The Climate + Social Action category will focus on challenges related to climate change, health and wellness, and art and film. Climate change is a huge threat to the world as we know it, and the time for solutions is now. Hackers will address these topics at unique intersections, using fresh methodologies to help foster creativity and change. The impact of this category will be on purpose-driven projects focused on improving the lives of people, the planet, and wildlife.
